Fayelio is a reader for your own EPUB and PDF books on iPhone, iPad and Android. It does not collect your personal data, has no advertising or tracking, and does not need an account. Fayelio has no server of its own and no analytics of its own. On Android, some Google components inside the app collect limited technical diagnostics (see below).
What stays on your device
Your books, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, notes and settings are stored on your device. Fayelio has no server of its own and does not receive them.
Optional: sync between your devices
In Settings you can turn on Cross-platform sync (Beta). If you do, you sign in with your Google account and Fayelio keeps a copy of your library list, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights and notes in a private, hidden folder in your own Google Drive (the "app data" folder). Only Fayelio on your devices can open that folder, and Fayelio asks for no other access to your Drive. The data goes directly between your devices and your Google Drive. Fayelio's developer does not receive, see or store it. You can turn sync off at any time and delete the data by removing Fayelio's access in your Google Account settings. Google's terms and privacy policy apply to your Drive.
What runs on your device
Read for Me uses your device's text-to-speech engine.
Summaries are written on your device (Apple's on-device language model on iPhone, Google's Gemini Nano on supported Android phones) unless you choose your own AI account below. Your text is not sent to us.
Text recognition for scanned PDFs, translation, and search in a book run on your device. On Android, the first time you translate into a language, Google downloads that language's model to your device; on iPhone, Apple's Translation framework may do the same. Google's and Apple's own terms and privacy policies apply to those downloads.
Ask about this book finds the passages most relevant to your question on your device.
Technical diagnostics from Google components (Android)
The on-device features on Android use Google's ML Kit. ML Kit may send limited technical information to Google for diagnostics and usage analytics: device information (such as manufacturer, model and OS version), the app's package name and version, per-installation identifiers that are not intended to identify you or your device, performance metrics, event and error codes (for example, a language model download finishing or failing), and the languages configured for a feature. This is sent encrypted (HTTPS). It does not include your books, notes or the text you read, and Fayelio does not receive it. Google's privacy policy applies.
Optional: your own AI account
In Settings you can choose to have summaries written, and questions answered with Ask about this book, by an AI provider you pick, using your own account key. This is off by default. If you turn it on, the text of the chapter or book you summarize, or your question together with the most relevant passages from the book, is sent directly from your device to that provider, under their terms and privacy policy. The key is stored on your device. Fayelio does not receive, store or see the key, the question or the text.
Free books in Discover
Discover contacts Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks to list and download free books. Those sites' own privacy terms apply to those requests.
Purchases
Fayelio Pro is a one-time purchase handled by the App Store (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play (Android). We do not see your payment details. The store may tell Fayelio whether you own Pro so it can unlock the features.
Permissions
Internet: for Discover, Pro purchases, translation models, sync and, if you turn it on, your own AI account.
Foreground service and wake lock (Android): so Read for Me can keep reading with the screen off.
Children
Fayelio collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above will change and the new version will be shown here.
